Getting started checklist for new Motors customers

Welcome to OfferUp Motors. This checklist covers the key steps to help you get up and running and make the most of your new account.

Set up your public profile

Your public profile is what buyers see when they visit your dealership page on OfferUp. You can complete your profile directly from the Business Portal. Taking a few minutes to fill it out gives buyers more confidence before reaching out.

  • Add a profile photo. Upload a photo that represents your dealership, such as your lot, logo, or brand image.
  • Add your business name. This is the name that will appear on your listings and your public profile.
  • Add a phone number. Your phone number will be displayed as a click-to-call option on your profile, making it easy for buyers to reach you directly.
  • Add your website. Link to your dealership website so buyers can learn more about your inventory and services.
  • Connect your Google profile. Link your Google Business profile to display your reviews, hours, and address on your OfferUp profile.
  • Describe your business. Add a short description of your dealership to help buyers understand what you offer.

Get your inventory live

The first step is getting your vehicles listed. If your dealership uses a Dealer Management System (DMS), connecting it to OfferUp is the recommended way to sync and manage your inventory.

  • Connect your DMS. If your dealership uses a DMS, sync it with OfferUp to automatically keep your inventory up to date. Once connected, manage your vehicle listings directly within your DMS — changes made there will reflect on OfferUp automatically.
  • Post listings manually. If you don't use a DMS, you can post and manage listings directly in the Business Portal. For tips on creating a great listing, see How to write a great listing description.
  • Use clear, accurate photos. Good photos give buyers a clear sense of what you're selling.
  • Add a video. Show the vehicle from multiple angles, demonstrate key features, or highlight any wear or damage.

Important

If your inventory is synced through a DMS, avoid editing those listings directly in OfferUp or the Business Portal as this can cause sync issues. Manual edits should only be made within your DMS.

Respond to buyers quickly

How quickly and consistently you respond to messages is visible on your profile. Staying responsive shows buyers you're an engaged, reliable dealership.

  • Turn on notifications. Make sure push and email notifications are enabled in the app and on your device so you don't miss a message from a buyer.
  • Respond to messages promptly. Try to reply to buyer messages as quickly as possible. Staying responsive helps build trust with potential buyers.
  • Use quick replies. Set up quick replies in the OfferUp mobile app to respond to common buyer questions with a single click. For more information, see Quick replies for chat.

Make the most of the Business Portal

The Business Portal is your central hub for managing your Motors account. Here are a few things to set up and explore early on.

  • Manage your listings. View, edit, and update your manually posted listings from a single dashboard. If your inventory is synced through a DMS, manage those listings directly within your DMS. For more information, see Manage listings with Business Portal.
  • Set up your services. Let buyers know what your business offers — such as financing, warranty, delivery, or trade-ins — by adding service cards to your listings. For more information, see Services your business offers.
  • Set up promotions. Promote your listings to increase their visibility in the feed. For more information, see Manage promotions with Business Portal.
  • Manage your inbox. Keep on top of buyer messages directly from the portal. For more information, see How to use messaging in the Business Portal.
  • Connect your google profile. Link your Google Business profile to display your reviews, hours, and address on your OfferUp profile. For more information, see Connect your Google profile.
  • Track your performance. Use the Performance Dashboard in the Business Portal to monitor your listing views, engagements, response time, and response rate. For more information, see Track your business performance.
