How to use messaging in the Business Portal

The messaging feature in the OfferUp Business Portal lets you manage all buyer conversations directly from your business dashboard. Use it to respond to buyer inquiries, share images of your items, and keep track of all your conversations in one place.

For tips on responding to buyers effectively, see Converting chats into sales.

Access your messages

To access your messages:

  1. Visit offerup.com/business and log in to your business account.
  2. In the left navigation menu, click Inbox.

Your inbox opens with your conversation list on the left and the active thread in the center.

Note

Conversations with unread messages will display a red badge showing the number of new messages.

Reply to a message

To reply to a buyer message:

  1. In the left navigation menu, click Inbox.
  2. In the conversation list, click the conversation you want to reply to.
  3. Click the Message... field at the bottom of the thread and type your response.
  4. Click the green send arrow to send your message.

Note

Once the buyer has read your message, you'll see Seen with a green checkmark below your message.

Use quick replies

If you have quick replies set up in the OfferUp mobile app, they will also appear in the Business Portal. Quick replies appear as buttons above the message field and let you respond to common buyer questions with a single click.

For example, you may see quick reply options like "Item availability", "Delivery methods", or "Business hours". Click one to send it instantly.

For more information on setting up quick replies, see Quick replies for chat.

Send an image

You can share images with buyers directly in the conversation. This is useful for showing additional photos of your items. Note that buyers cannot send images to you.

Important

Image sharing is only available for businesses on the Elite or Best tier.

To send an image:

  1. Open the conversation you want to send an image in.
  2. Click the camera icon next to the Message... field.
  3. Select an image from your device.
  4. Click the green send arrow to send the image.
